Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band
Directed by: David Wells
The Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band is an approximately 150-piece band, open to all interested students. The Blue Thunder performs at all home football games, and periodically travels with the team to away games.
Symphonic Winds
Directed by: Marcellus Brown
Symphonic Winds is the premier concert band at Boise State, comprised of a select group of 45 instrumentalists who perform several concerts throughout the school year. An audition is required prior to registration.
All-Campus Concert Band
Directed by: Elizabeth Gould
The All-Campus Concert Band is open to all student and community musicians. Composed of about 70 musicians, it performs a variety of band literature in concerts throughout the school year. No audition is required for membership.
Percussion Ensemble
Directed by: John Baldwin
The Percussion Ensemble explores and presents literature from the rapidly expanding music of the 20th century. Students are also encouraged to compose original music and/or arrange or adapt existing music for the ensembles. There are approximately 12 members in percussion ensemble. Permission from the instructor is required prior to registration.
Trombone Choir
Directed by: David Mathie
This group is composed of about 12 tenor and bass trombonists playing original and transcribed music for trombone ensemble. Permission from the instructor is required prior to registration.
Tuba Ensemble
Directed by: Michael Fischer
This new ensemble, consisting of eight musicians, performs a variety of music. Permission from the instructor is required prior to registration.
Jazz Ensemble
Directed by: Ritchard Maynard
The Jazz Ensemble, comprised of around 20 members, studies and performs jazz literature throughout the course of the school year.
Big Band
Directed by: Brad Peters
The Big Band is an auditioned ensemble presenting material taken from the entire repertoire of the jazz idiom. Made up of about 15 members, it performs throughout the school year.
Pep Bands
Directed by: David Wells
The pep bands, drawn from about forty musicians, perform at all home basketball and volleyball games, traveling with the team periodically. Students are accepted into this group on the basis of audition and/or instructor approval.
